Harrow Somali Supplementary school (HSSS)

  • Harrow Somali supplementary school was established in the early 90s in response to the complex needs of the new arrivals from war torn Somalia.
  • We have continued to organise classes for young people during weekends
  • In addition to the educational support, we implemented joint programs with Harrow Council and other voluntary groups to empower the community to settle down without hindrance to language and cultural barriers.
  • Subsequently the Harrow Somali Supplementary School has continued links with the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education (NRCSE) and in March 2020 gained the new NRCSE Quality Mark.  Both the Arabic and maths teaching were highly praised for their personalised approach.

The outcomes of the weekend’s supplementary school of Key stages in maths were very good in Harrow and in the national average 2018/2019. The number attending this year (2020) is 15.
